ERROL CHARLES JACOBSEN

Errol Charles Jacobsen, a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on May 16, 2023, in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 77. Born on December 10, 1945, in Gretna, Louisiana, Errol is the son of the late Roy Joseph Jacobsen and Helen Perry Jacobsen.
Errol grew up in the city of Gretna with his brother, Roy Jacobsen II; sister, the late Darlene Blakey; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins. He attended West Jefferson High School, where he made lasting friendships and met his wife, Fannie. Although divorced after 25 years of marriage, they remained the closest of friends. In 2012, Errol left the West Bank and moved to Slidell to be closer to his children.
Errol is the cherished father of Christi Jacobsen Rome (Claude Butch Rome III) and Erin Jacobsen Simmons. He is the proud grandfather of Jade Simmons, Amanda Rome and Madelyn Rome and great-grandfather of Charleigh Hartfield and Ella Hartfield.
Errol’s love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A proud Louisianan, Errol had a deep love for the culture and traditions of his home state. His love for cooking and gardening was well known among his friends and family, but Carnival was his greatest love. He was an avid fan of Mardi Gras and enjoyed participating in the festivities every year. Over the years he was a member of several West Bank krewes, often riding with two or more clubs each season. Many a Mardi Gras day was spent in the city of New Orleans, riding on a family created truck float. He, along with friends and family, delighted in building the float and designing costumes, often earning awards for best headpiece or costume. He was most proud and delighted in the fact that he was a founding member of the Knights of King Arthur. Errol served as an officer and reigned as one of its earliest Kings.
Errol Charles Jacobsen left a lasting impact on the lives of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Errol’s family would like to recognize Dr. Desai at Ochsner Main Campus for being instrumental in his care before his transition to the amazing medical team at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Errol’s last days were spent under the care of Dr. Merril, Dr. Parker, and Dr. Pippin; nurses, Hannah, Megan, and Amanda; and the many nurse techs. The professionalism and care this team provided comforted both Errol and his family during a most difficult time and his final days.
