DANIEL WAYNE JOCKS

Daniel Wayne Jocks
January 17, 1956 – October 4, 2023
The second son of Miriam and John Bruce Jocks, Dan was born into a Navy family on the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Three little sisters later, and after multiple moves through Virginia, Illinois, and a Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Dan arrived at Pearl River High School as a sophomore. After some time doing construction and working offshore, his career took off when the aerospace industry called his name; holding several positions with Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin, and S3 Company for NASA where he was known as “Jocko”. He loved music, his beloved pets and all things nature. He was a talented artist, and many knew him for his pointillism prints and cartoons.
He made his home in Pearl River with his high-school sweetheart and lifelong love, Carolyn and four children. He was “Pops” to 8 grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife of 43 years Carolyn Comeaux Jocks, his children Eric John, Brian Charles (Joan), Amy Theresa Malespin (Elias), and Rachel Helen (Gil Martinez). Eight grandchildren; Evangeline Jocks, Julian Martinez, Mae Jocks, Eloisa Malespin, Melina Martinez, Dominic Martinez, Ariana Martinez and Roman Malespin. Also survived by brother Bert Jocks, sisters Yvonne Jocks, Margaret Pelzel and Kristy Wood as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father John Bruce Jocks, his mother Miriam Wilkins Jocks and his sister Linda Jean Jocks. Also, half siblings Jolene Rice, Martin Jocks and Charlie Jocks.
Visitation will be held Friday October 20 – 5pm to 8pm At D T Williams Funeral Home 67525 Highway 41 Pearl River.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church 66192 St. Mary Dr. Pearl River with visitation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Rosary at 12:30 p.m.

 

GAYLE TEMPLET MENTER

Gayle Josephine Templet Menter, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana since 1969, passed away on October 6, 2023, at the age of 83. She was a native of Belle Alliance, Louisiana, born on January 14, 1940 to her loving parents, the late Milda Sanchez Templet and Antoine Charles Rudolph Templet. Gayle is the beloved wife of 34 years to David Menter; cherished mother of Belinda Love (Todd), Debra Hatcher (Mark), and Jane Perkins (Michael); adored grandmother of Daniel Gardner (Veronica), Andrea Strange (Thad), Michele Schultz (Jeff), Jeremy Gardner, Richard Mosley, Brandon Perkins (Brandi), Erica Meyer (Ryan), and Kaitlen Rachal (Chad); and great-grandmother of Caylon Gardner, Allie Audibert, Austin Gardner, Emily Navarro, Walker Navarro, Grace Hart, Sloane Gardner, Alden Meyer, Emilia Meyer, Riley Moseley, and Finley Rachal. She also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends whom she loved greatly.
Gayle was preceded in death by all of her ten siblings: William Morris, Gloria Marshall, Dolores Mandina, Shirley Savoie, Sylvia Reed, Anthony Templet Jr., Camille Templet, Loretta Templet, Leroy Templet, and Kenneth Templet.
Gayle will fondly be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the matriarch of the family, and together they shared many memories that will be forever cherished. Gayle kept a beautiful garden, was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed dancing in her spare time. She was a parishioner of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Gayle will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Audubon Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will begin in the chapel at 11 a.m. Gayle will be laid to rest in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com

Joan Elizabeth Latella, age 89, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church who was an extremely charitable person, also having a great love for animals.
She worked as a travel agent, blackjack dealer and a pianist, with music also at the heart of her life.

Sylvia Jean Bazzi, age 81, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023.
A native of Detroit, MI, she excelled on the field hockey team in high school and later earned a degree in Education from Wayne State University.
She had a long teaching career, mainly in American history, World history and U.S. government. She also taught belly dancing at a local college, and taught English to Japanese men and women.

Declan Killian Schuette, one month and 10 days old, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
He was born in New Orleans.

Jeffrey “Jeff” John Segner, age 61, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023.
Born in Chicago, IL, he earned a Master’s of Public Health from Tulane after working as a registered EMT. He later worked as a clinical research site director at Benchmark Research for 18 years.
He loved to scuba dive and travel the globe and enjoyed underwater photography. He also loved old planes and was a licensed pilot, and a charter member of the Big Easy Wing and as colonel in the Commemorative Air Force.

Kathleen McIntosh, age 88, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, she and her husband Ray were longtime owners of Ray’s Bullpen Restaurant in Slidell.
Joyce Lynn Cornelius Klais, age 85, of Middleburg, FL, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
A former resident of Slidell, she spent much of her life in Houston, TX, and was active in bowling leagues. She moved to Slidell in 2003 and became an active member of First Christian Church, working as treasurer and volunteering for EWF, the choir, as a Sunday school teacher and helping with bazaars.
She was head of the Bells group for Canterfield Resident Council after moving to Florida.

Luke A. Palermo, age 88, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, and Holy Cross graduate from 1955, he was an avid LSU fan who loved to snow ski, go fishing and playing Santa during the Santa on the Bayou event each year as a member of the Palm Lake Anglers Club.
