VICTORIA ‘VICKIE’ LEA STAINS
Victoria “Vickie” Lea Stains, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on March 14, 2023, at the age of 39. She was born on September 29, 1983, to her parents, Janet Robichaux Stains and Charles Stains. Victoria is the beloved mother of Regina Stains; treasured sister of Rachele Stains and Stephanie Stains Gekler (Garrett); and aunt of Hazel Gekler. She is also survived by a host of extended family members and friends.
Victoria is a mother, auntie, a daughter, a best friend, a child of God, and now OUR ANGEL. Over the past 15 months, she fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout her treatment, she was such an extraordinary example of strength, grace, and dignity, but she is so much more than the sum of the past year. Victoria is smart, beautiful, funny, loving, and fearless. She was an avid gardener, creative crafter, and generous with her time and efforts. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. We will celebrate her life every day. We will remember and honor all the love and light she brought into this world, especially her daughter, Regina.
A celebration of Victoria’s life will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at St. Joseph Abbey Church. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2 p.m. Inurnment to follow Mass at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. MATTHEW CLAYTON BRUMFIELD
Matthew Clayton Brumfield, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on March 10, 2023 at the age of 45. He was a native of St. Louis, Missouri, born on October 28, 1977 to his loving parents, Marsha Kelly Brumfield and Barney Brumfield. Matthew is the younger brother of Craig Brumfield. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends.
Matthew graduated from Southern Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He had a career in the hospitality industry, specializing in marketing and sales. Matthew enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, and doing volunteer work in his spare time.
Matthew was a caring and giving person. He continued that in death through the gift of organ, tissue, and eye donation. Matthew will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Captain Carroll “Terry” Newman, age 101, of Lacombe, LA, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
A native of New Orleans, he had been a Lacombe resident for 49 years, and was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, beginning a long career that led to the U.S. Coast Guard, where he retired after achieving the rank of Captain. He traveled the world and served in World War II.
He later worked for Tidewater, Inc. and enjoyed opera, gardening and helping in his community after his retirement, living independently up to the age of 100.
Dayton “Dave” Grimm, Jr., age 79, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, PA, and he was a jack of all trades.
Carol “Mommoms” Ann Edwards, age 79, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she moved to Louisiana in 2001 and worked as a waitress most of her life.
She loved to give gifts, especially baking pies for others, and enjoyed her motorized scooter, as well as dancing, playing cards, gardening, walking the family dogs, and doing crossword puzzles.

Christina L. Maddox, age 71, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
A native of Harlingten, TX, she had a career as a loan officer and was employed with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
